Oil pastel crayon on white paper. The crayons, as used by a child, are one of the easiest ways to approach painting. The colours do not need to be pre-mixed: each crayon is applied to the page, and modified by applying another crayon layer on top, or if necessary scraping part of a layer off. Finer details can be managed by using the edge of the crayon, and the palette knife. However, it is more difficult to achieve nuances of tone, or to cover the paper evenly.
